Description Family Cupressaceae Originating from Japan A slow-growing evergreen coniferous tree with a red/brown trunk and a dense, irregular conical shape. It has the deepest, richest green leaves of any conifer, – almost black/green and from a distance the foliage appears to possess a moss-like quality. On closer inspection you can appreciate the unusual, undulating, fan-shaped sprays of leaves, densely crowding the stems. New spring growth is a shiny pale green making a colourful contrast with the previous season’s growth. Slow growing – not to be confused with ‘Gracilis’, which is much faster and taller growing. Grow in moist but well-drained soil in sun. Will tolerate some lime. Eventual mature plant size : Height 2m Spread 1.5m
