Description Family Sapindaceae Originating from Japan Elegant and extremely dense, this slow-growing, shapely Acer has an upright, almost columnar form when young. With great age, it may fill out to form a rounded shrub with a lovely soft texture due to its tufted, tightly bunched foliage. The leaves emerge in a bright red, darkening down to dusky purple/red before adopting incendiary scarlet tones in late autumn. It is ideal for growing in pots, and planting compositions where it will reliably make a compact mass of foliage. It holds its colour well all season, even in full sun, providing it has sufficient moisture at its roots. Easy to grow in non-alkaline soil. Height and spread after 10 – 20 years 3m x 2.5m. Foliage colour Spring: deep red Summer: deep red Autumn: bright scarlet
