Description Family Sapindaceae Originating from Japan. Finely divided lacy leaves form a soft, weeping dome-shaped shrub or small tree. Bright green spring foliage matures to darker green for summer, turning brilliant red in autumn. Hardy and easy to grow in all but the driest soil in part shade. Filamentous, delicate and cascading, this beautiful acer has one of the finest leaves, of a lovely rich and fresh apple green in spring, darkening to mid green, and then in autumn to a strong shade of burgundy. It’s a strong and fast growing acer, despite its delicate appearance, making a stunning upright large shrub or small tree with downswept branches. The upright shape, and handsomely lobed leaves of this variety make it worthy of centrepiece planting in woodland, oriental and traditional English gardens, succeeding in all but alkaline soils in light dappled shade. Height and spread after 5 – 10 years 4m x 3m.
